About us

The Disabled Staff Network is self-organised and is run by, and for disabled staff. It was set up to provide peer support, networking opportunities and on occasion to influence the university’s policies and practices with the aim of creating a more inclusive workplace.

Who can join?

Any member of staff who are disabled, or are interested in disability working at UWE can join this network. By the term ‘disabled’, we take your self-definition of being disabled and no questions will be asked about self-declaration.

Any contact with and/or membership of this network is kept strictly confidential.

What can I expect as a member?

As a member, you will receive information from the Disabled Staff Network via your work email and be invited to attend regular events. Some of these are informal drop in gatherings where you can meet other members, some will include one-off talks or presentations and some will be more formal meetings where you will have the chance to add something to the agenda.

As a formal UWE staff network which is supported by the Equality and Diversity team, staff are entitled to attend the Disabled Staff Network meetings during their working hours for up to 15 hours a year (pro rata for part-time staff).
